Basics of Article Writing & Marketing

One way of promoting your website and product can be achieved for free. As an additional bonus, this “free” method can boost your sites and sales, doubling and even tripling your income.

Articles. One of the easiest ways to promote your website in order to generate traffic and increase your earnings.

How does this work?

Write articles relating to your website and submit them to “free content” submission sites. Easy to do, takes little time and can increase your website traffic, sales and of course, your income.

How can article writing boost traffic and income?

The article on the free content site contains a link to your own website. Readers, after reading your articles, may choose to click on the link and pay you an unexpected visit. Having them on the free content sites is also making these articles available to other webmasters who may wish to publish that article on their site.

If they do, your article will include a link back to your site. And anyone who reads the article on that site can still click on the link to visit your site.

As the list of your published articles grow larger, and more and more of them are appearing on different websites, the total number of links to your site increases also. Major search engines are placing a lot of significance on incoming links to websites so they can determine the importance of a certain site.

The more incoming links the website has, the more importance search engines attaches to it. This will then increase your website’s placement in the search results.

If you site is into promoting a product or service, the links that your articles have achieved will mean more potential customers for you. Even if visitors only browse through, you never know if they might be in need of what you are offering in the future.

There are also those who already have specific things they need on their mind but cannot decide yet between the many choices online. Chances are, they may stumble upon one of your articles, gets interested by the contents you wrote, go to your site and became enticed by your promotions. See how easy that is?

Search engines do not just index the websites, they also index published articles. They also index any article that is written about your own website’s topic. So once someone searches for that same topic, the list of results will have your site or may even show the articles that you have written.

And to think, no effort on your part was used to bring them to your site. Just your published articles and the search engines.

It is no wonder why many webmasters are suddenly reviving their old writing styles and taking time to write more articles about their site than doing other means of promotion.

Getting their site known is easier if they have articles increasing their links and traffic and making it accessible for visitors searching the internet. Since many people are now taking their buying needs online, having your site on the search engines through your articles is one way of letting them know about you and your business.

The good thing with articles is that you can write about things that people would want to know about. This can be achieved in the lightest mood but professional manner, with a little not-so-obvious sales pitch added.

If you think about it, only a few minutes of your time is spent on writing one article and submitting to free content site. In the shortest span of time also, those are distributed to more sites than you can think of. Even before you know what is happening, you are getting more visitors than you previously had.

If you think you are wasting your time writing these articles, fast forward to the time when you will see them printed and wide-spread on the internet. Not to mention the sudden attention and interest that people are giving your website and your products or services.

Try writing some articles and you will be assured of the sudden surge in site traffic, link popularity and interest. Before you know it, you will be doubling and even tripling your earnings.

Nothing like getting benefits for something you got for free.

Article Spinning…Is It An Option?

With Googles emphasis on fresh website content, site owners are scrambling for constant, new content for their sites. Since Google is also adept at discerning duplicate content, or even majority duplicate content, it is imperative that each blog post or article you are adding to your site is sufficiently unique.

Now if you have only one site, it isn’t hard to write unique content once a week or so for your single website. But for those folks you have 10, or even 100 or more sites, that is not feasible. So your choices then are:

  1. Have someone write new material,
  2. Use syndicated content, or
  3. Spin existing articles so they are changed in the eyes of Google (and others) and therefore will not trigger the dreaded duplicate content filter.

Since I write unique material, you can guess what I think is the best choice. But let’s look at the other options. First using syndicated content is a way to get tons of articles and posts. The problem is twofold with syndicated content. One, it may not be unique, or even moderately unique. Two, it will have imbedded links to programs and sites of the syndicated columnist/writer, and will be redirecting traffic away from your web site. Certainly, this is not what you want.

Another option is article spinning. I have experimented with article spinning and the results are mixed to absolutely terrible. Most programs give you an option of what percentage of “spin” you would like to utilize. I have found that a low percentage of spin 5 to 20% results in an article that still gets a fair amount of censorship and duplicate warning comments. Alternately, a higher “spin” percentage setting results in circumventing the duplicate content issue, but makes the article almost unreadable. I have found that these high spun articles or posts are something I do not want on any of my sites.

So what is my conclusion and recommendation? Use articles and posts at a level where you can either write them yourself, or in combination with an article writer like myself. And augment your website promotion by going after backlinks. This is less costly, and very powerful in Google’s algorithm, at least today. Align yourself with a good SEO consultant, and draft a program with him/her that involves those two major components, along with some other important activities. This will promote your site the right way for long term growth without blowing up your short term budget.

I Hate Writing Articles

Owning, running and maintaining an internet based business or a site needs articles. Plain and simple, every who has a site knows this. Even those who don’t have sites but are frequent internet users knows this as well. Articles quench the thirst for information and knowledge of the people. Plus, articles provide many other benefits for the site.

The benefits that articles provide are increased Google rankings, in the organic search results. They also provide a means to attract website visitors, and people will revisit to see your thoughts on more subjects. Cross linking begins and your site grows and grows. Articles are the lifeblood of fresh content for normally stagnant websites. Lastly, articles provide for the increase of the confidence and trust levels of customers to your site and company.

Many articles are also beneficial to both company and its traffic. When the readers like the articles, they tell more of their friends, family and peers and recommend your site to them, providing for an increase in site traffic. You get bigger sales if your traffic trusts and believes in you. Your product or services become much easier to sell when your visitors get to know you, and appreciate your knowledge.

So, we have established that articles are very important to a site and to business. Articles are crucial and to keep ahead in the game, a site must have fresh articles, it is imperative. There is one dilemma though, not many people like writing articles.

Many website owners would rather spend their time on something else, and unless you’re a big time company, you don’t have the necessary resources to use on a pool of article writers. Plagiarism or copying of other articles is frowned upon and could easily get you labeled inappropriately in your community, not to mention fines and legal review.

So what are the other options?

Well, for starters if you hate writing articles, get them written for you. Prices are at all time lows in this economy, and we write totally unique articles, and don’t share them with anyone else.

Some other thoughts you might be having are free Public domain articles. The downside to public domain articles is that since they are free for everybody, many of your competitors may have access to them as well. Since every site needs to be original and unique even though you have the same niche, this will not get you your desired results with Google.

Another way to get free articles is to allow other sites which has the same subject or topic as yours to submit articles to your site. This would be only to augment your existing content or else all your articles would be leading to other sites since these articles would have resource boxes with them that could link or direct the readers to their site. Again, not the long term rsults you are trying to get. To truly feel the impact of what a good article can do for you, go for original ones. There are many article writers who do part time and freelance article writing jobs that charges only minimal fees. We are in that group of professionals who can deliver that unique, original article, at a very low cost.

The investment you made for these articles would be worthwhile because you could use them for all marketing venues, like article directory submissions, external logs, even the most desired blogs of Squidoo, Hub Pages and Weebly, as long as you post there first.

Article Writing…Should Your Articles Be Unique?

You probably have asked yourself this question many times. Do my articles really have to be unique? Can I use syndicated content if I make sure proper credit is still maintained? Can I spin articles with computer software to make them unique? If I do spin the articles, how much spinning is enough spinning?

There are plenty of people that will spin these subjects in a fashion that best supports what they are selling. If I sell spinning software (I don’t), I would be slanting the answers to the above in such a way that spinning articles was your only choice. If I were an article writer (I am), you would think that I would be preaching unique-unique-unique. I do to some extent, but nothing is black and white. So let’s answer the questions above as best we can.

  1. Can I use syndicated content as long as I maintain proper author credit in the post or article? This is a simple answer, absolutely yes if they are a writer for syndicated content (Unique Article Wizard or SEO LinkVine). And probably yes, even if they are not syndicated writers, and you just capture their content and give them credit. Credit includes maintaining all their imbedded links and redirects.
  2. Can I spin articles with computer software to make them unique? This technique is being done a lot. The second level question is….how much spinning makes it unique? Despite what anyone will tell you, nobody knows the exact answer to this question. And I’m not talking morality here, as that is a different subject altogether. I’m talking uniqueness as determined by “Big Daddy” Google. If Google determines your article not to be sufficiently unique, you will get no credit in your search for rankings. Further, some believe you may even get penalized. But none of us really know. I do know one thing, it is possible to spin articles to a level that will make them unique; however, it will also make them unreadable as well. Spinning looks good on the outside superficially, but the proof reading after the spin is painful, and I can state solidly that you will not like the article!
  3. And the big question, do my articles really have to be unique? No one really knows the answer to this question either. The Google algorithms for growth in search engine popularity are mysterious, and for good reason. If they were public, people would find quick workarounds to short cut the process. So my thought on this subject is….why take the chance on syndicated content, or spun articles? You are investing in the long haul here (or you should have that mindset if you don’t). It takes some time to move up the ladder of Google love, and you will only know that these other two choices of syndicated content and spinning articles is not the way to go AFTER many months of no success. At that point, or another point soon thereafter, you will make changes and start using unique content, because you will have too.

One last approach you might use is to use all unique content on a site/blog or two, and all spun content on a couple other sites/blogs, and all syndicated content on a third set of sites/blogs. Test the results and you will be able to make your own judgments.

What Does Google Value Most?

Google wants content, information content, that provides the site visitor some value. We all hear lots of talk and discussion about building back links to achieve high rankings in Google, and sure enough, that is a significant part of the Google reward system. However, most people forget what the function of that search engine really is, which is to seek out the most relevant content based on the users search term and display it in the search results pages. And the majority of the experts think that unique content is the answer. That’s correct, not syndicated content or duplicate content, real unique content.

There’s only one group of people who really know what’s going on within Google and those often talked about algorithms, and those are the people that work for the company. The majority of everything else you hear and read is just an educated guess, or worse, speculation. SEO can be very challenging and near impossible to truly maximize in a short term rise to glory. Algorithms change, websites fluctuate, and people that have been spending an enormous amount of time, energy and resources on link building, have in some cases seen their sites just disappear.

Despite all these changes and hopeful short cuts, one basic, fundamental, thing will not change, and that’s the function (job) of the search engine itself. When Google says user experience and real time search, it is a clear signal that content “rules”. So if content rules, do you think duplicate or syndicated content “rules”? It seems very doubtful, because Google’s ultimate test is how the content listed in the search engine results will benefit the end user. If your content is the same as someone else’s, that does not provide ultimate value to the end user.

So you can guess and maybe even convince yourself that using syndicated content (and of course giving credit to the real author), is what you want to do as it shows more posts and articles and blogs on your sites. But if it is a rehash, or reprint of content, then did you really provide any end user value? I say it’s not worth the chance. And don’t get me wrong, I’ve done it sometimes when I just couldn’t squeeze out any more original content due to lack of time. But as a long term strategy, I don’t believe those blogs and sites will ever get to the levels of a pure, original content site.

Original content is very important in the first 15-30 days of any new blog or website. If you are pushed for time, treat the first 30 days as sacred territory for unique content creation. This will kind of get the new blog on the map, and then you can invoke a maintenance mode where you create one new unique content piece every week or so. When you reach maintenance mode, move on to a new niche where you invest heavy on the front end content to once again reach the maintenance mode.
